Hindsight: Work Timeline
Understand where your workday went — privately
Hindsight quietly builds a timeline of your workday, then turns it into a searchable log, a written journal, and a weekly review. Every entry is tied to real evidence you can inspect and correct. Local-first: no account, no servers, opt-in capture.
Hi Product Hunt 👋
I'm Dhrumil, and I made Hindsight.
Every standup someone asks "what did you do yesterday?" and I never had a good answer. I was busy the whole day, but by evening I couldn't remember where the time went.
I tried time trackers. Timers didn't work for me because I always forgot to start them. Automatic trackers told me things like "Chrome: 4 hours", which doesn't say what I actually did.
So I built Hindsight. It takes a screenshot every now and then, figures out what you were working on, and builds a timeline of tasks, not apps. If you fix a bug using Xcode, Safari and Terminal, that shows up as one task, not three apps.
A few things I cared about:
• You can see why it wrote each entry: the screenshot, the text it read, and how sure it is. If it's not sure, it tells you.
• You can fix anything. Edit, merge, split. Your fixes show up in the daily journal and weekly review too.
• The AI writes the descriptions, but every time and total is calculated from your real timeline. I didn't want the AI guessing numbers.
About privacy, to be upfront:
• You can track manually. Then nothing is captured and no permissions are needed.
• Auto tracking is opt-in. It only uses Screen Recording permission, never Accessibility.
• On macOS 26, Apple's on-device AI can read the text in screenshots but can't describe the image. For that you need macOS 27, or a local model like Ollama or LM Studio, which also stays on your Mac.
• If you connect a cloud AI with your own API key, data goes straight from your Mac to that provider. I don't run any server, so there's no account and nothing is ever sent to me.
• Password managers are skipped, and screenshots delete themselves after 7 days by default.
