Hi Product Hunt. We built HI3D.cc to turn one photo into a 3D model that holds up at the next step: a slicer, a game engine or a product page.
Before writing the site, we paid for test runs of every preset and measured the results. Four findings shaped the product:
- None of the raw meshes was strictly watertight. The 3D print preset repairs holes, keeps the repair only if it changes under 1% of the mesh, and shows a print check before you download STL or 3MF.
- A model built straight from text changed design between preview and final, so text goes through four free concept images.
- Rigging stripped the textures, so we put the original maps back.
- A crayon drawing built straight from its photo came out as a flat sheet of paper. Each photo now gets a quick check: drawings, scenery and cut-off subjects are redrawn first, and ordinary photos, cluttered ones included, go in as they are.
Why pay per model: a few finished models shouldn't need a subscription. $12 buys 300 credits that never expire: $4 per full-colour 4K model, $1.60 per print mesh. Failed runs refund automatically.
Limits, plainly: the back of an object is inferred from one photo, materials can be misread (our test jeans came out shiny), capes stretch on rigged characters, and the 40 free sign-up credits cover one view-only shape preview, not a download.
We'd value feedback on photos that gave a bad result, and on any file or setting your workflow needs.
