Hermit is a desktop app for talking to local LLMs. You bring Ollama; Hermit gives you a chat, code, and vision interface that's quiet, fast, and never leaves your laptop. It's the LLM app for the kind of person who reads NDAs before pasting code into ChatGPT — the kind who'd rather their billing handler, internal docs, and half-finished migrations stay on their own machine.
I'm a designer, not an ML person. A few months ago I wondered if I could ship a real desktop AI app — not a wrapper, not a side-panel, something my non-technical friends would actually want to install. So I tried.
The process taught me more than any course I've taken. Designing a product I was simultaneously figuring out how to build. Every frame of the launch video, every animation in the UI, every state of the app — designed and shipped with Claude as my collaborator. That changed how I think about what one person can ship now.
