Hide Mac menu bar clutter and pin individual actions
Native macOS app that hides menu bar icons behind one item, rescues icons stuck behind the notch, pins menu commands to hotkeys, keeps new menu bar apps hidden, flags battery-hungry hidden apps, and syncs your layout across your Macs with iCloud.
I built Hemmed because my MacBook menu bar had two annoyances. Icons I only click once a month took up half the bar, and macOS pushed the rest behind the camera notch where I couldn't reach them.
Hiding icons with existing tools helped, except when I needed one specific command inside a hidden app's menu. I still had to expand the whole menu bar, find the icon, open its menu, and click the item.
Here is what Hemmed does:
Hides unwanted menu bar icons behind one item (toggle with a hot key, drag icons between Shown and Hidden)
Notch rescue tray: catches icons trapped behind the MacBook camera notch in a compact dropdown tray centered right under the notch so you can click them in place, then close it with a click or a two-finger swipe up
Record a Pin: click "Record a Pin...", click any item in another app's menu bar menu once, and save that single command with its app icon and its own global hotkey while the app's menu bar icon stays hidden.
New Arrivals: newly installed menu bar apps start out hidden by default, and Hemmed lights a quiet coral dot on its glyph upon arrival. Click the Hemmed glyph to choose Make Visible or Keep Hidden.
Hungry Icons: on battery power, when hidden or tray-rescued menu bar apps use high energy, Hemmed shows a silent compact leaf-and-count pill (🍃 N) beside the glyph, badges those icons in the tray, and offers a one-click "Quit the hungry ones" action
Same Bar on Every Mac: Hemmed syncs your menu bar layout across your Macs through iCloud automatically, including hidden/visible state, icon order, Pinned Actions, and preferences (requires being signed into iCloud)
Hemmed is a native Swift app for macOS 13 or later. It is $14.99 paid once (up to 3 Macs per license), with a 14-day free trial and a 30-day refund window.
