Hi I'm Woody.

Helmden is a training app for men who finish faster than they want to. It's the method we use in clinic, built by pelvic-health PTs.

Before you click anything: the quiz and your first session run with no account, no email, no card. Your result is shown from your device. We keep one anonymous copy with no name and no email attached, so it's waiting if you decide to sign up, and you can delete it any time. There's no community to join and no feed. Sessions are solo audio.

I trained as an orthopedic surgeon in Beijing, then retrained in physical therapy at McGill. For the last few years I've treated men's pelvic health and taught the method to clinicians at Kaiser Permanente and Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. The training sessions were shaped with Dr. Steven Tijerina, DPT, who treats men's pelvic issues every week and mentors PTs across the US.

Roughly 1 in 3 men finish faster than they want to. Almost none of them bring it up. The ones who do get handed a numbing spray, an off-label SSRI, or a Reddit thread about kegels.

The part I find harder to say in public is that I spent years as a surgeon with nothing useful for a man who raised this. The knowledge existed. He just never brought it up, and on the rare day he did, we were ninety seconds from the end of a fifteen-minute appointment. The men I see now have usually carried it for ten years before saying it out loud to anyone.

An app is a strange answer to a problem like that I know. But anyways...

Finishing too fast is usually a reflex firing early, because the body is tense and worked up without the man noticing. Reflexes can be trained. And it isn't one problem. In clinic we see at least five distinct patterns, and they need different fixes. That's why the thing that worked for some guy online did nothing for you.

Helmden is:

A 2-minute quiz that tells you which of the 5 types you are
Short daily guided sessions that train the brake instead of the clench
A Control Score, so you can see it moving before you feel it. It scores the reflex, not you.

It's an educational training tool built by pelvic-health PTs. It's not a medical device and it's not a diagnostic. Finishing too fast can occasionally point at something that deserves a doctor, and the quiz is built to say so. If your timing turns out closer to normal than you think, we tell you that too. We don't sell pills or sprays and we don't promise a quick 30-min fix.

The quiz, your result and your first session are free. Membership is $14.99 a month or $99 a year after that.

Two things I'd like your read on.

First the writing. We had to write about sex plainly, no euphemisms, without turning it into a joke, for a reader who is doing all of this in private. Tell me where the copy still makes you cringe, and tell me anywhere the app feels like it's grading you.

Secondly I also have an open question to everyone. Almost everything here is built for a man on his own. We keep hearing that partners are often the ones who go looking for help first, and we have to decide whether to build anything partner-facing at all, or whether that breaks the privacy that makes men willing to open it. If you have a view, I'd like to hear it.

Who hunted Helmden?

Helmden was hunted by Di Wu. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it.
