Hash Harbor
A local torrent streamer that lives at localhost
Hash Harbor is an open-source torrent streamer and downloader that runs on your computer. Start it with npx hash-harbor, open a permanent localhost address, then inspect metadata, stream supported video or audio, preview files, or download individual files. Its native engine supports ordinary BitTorrent peers, trackers, and DHT—without a hosted torrent backend, cloud storage, or unpredictable port changes.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I built Hash Harbor because I wanted the convenience of a browser interface without sending torrent activity or files through somebody else’s server.
The first version ran entirely inside the browser, but normal magnets often failed because browsers can only connect to WebRTC-compatible peers. I eventually rebuilt it around a native local engine while keeping the browser as the interface.
Now you can run npx hash-harbor, bookmark localhost:3210, inspect every file, stream supported media, and download only what you need. The engine supports ordinary BitTorrent peers, trackers, and DHT, while the interface and files stay on your computer.
I’d love feedback on the installation flow, streaming experience, and what you would want next. Please use Hash Harbor only for files you have permission to access and share.
