The short story: I used Evernote for more than a decade. Scanned mail, the kids' report cards, recordings of meetings, fifteen years of notes. Then it was sold, the price roughly doubled, the free plan shrank to fifty notes, and getting my own data out got harder.
To be fair to them, the app is fine. We counted Evernote's 500 most recent US App Store reviews and published the full breakdown. Of the negative ones, 9% mention a bug, crash or sync problem. 54% are about price. The product got better while the deal got worse. That's the thing Harbor is built to fix.
What it is: a private second brain. Notes, plus scanned documents, PDFs, photos and recordings, all in one place and all searchable. Search reads the words inside photos and scanned PDFs, including handwriting. Recordings become transcripts.

Stop paying and your account goes read-only, never deleted. That promise is written into every new account as a note, dated the day you joined.
What it isn't: for teams. No shared workspaces, no admin console, no enterprise tier coming. It's personal, on purpose.
The trade-off people ask about most: when you encrypt a note we genuinely can't read it, which means we can't search inside it or OCR it either. So you encrypt the tax returns and the medical records and leave the rest fully searchable. It's a choice, not a default.
