Guardian Eye WebCamera

Turn an old phone into a real ONVIF/RTSP camera

WebCamera turns an old Android phone or iPhone into a standard IP camera: RTSP H.264/H.265, ONVIF, MJPEG and snapshots. Any ONVIF recorder discovers it — no proprietary bridge, no app-to-app pairing. On-device detection (motion, people, sound, tamper) sends events over ONVIF. First launch generates device-unique credentials — no admin/admin, no account, no cloud: video never leaves your network. Android 5.0+ and iOS 15+ — a 2015 phone qualifies. Streaming is free, permanently.

Hi Product Hunt! Maker here. WebCamera started from a very literal drawer: while building our desktop NVR I needed test cameras, and the cheapest "IP camera" on my desk turned out to be an old Galaxy S22. So we made the phone speak the same protocols a commercial camera does — RTSP (H.264/H.265), ONVIF, MJPEG, snapshots — instead of inventing a proprietary bridge. A few decisions I'm proud of: • It's a real camera, not an app-to-app link. Any ONVIF recorder discovers it — ours, or any other NVR, or just VLC. • First launch generates a device-unique username and password. No "admin/admin", no account, no cloud. • Detection (motion, people/animals, sound, tamper) runs on the phone and events go out over ONVIF. Frames never leave your network. • Android 5.0+ and iOS 15+ — a 2015 iPhone 6s qualifies. Streaming is free and stays free. Happy to answer anything — camera protocols, battery life, weird mounts, all of it.
