Grounded

Block distracting apps, on your own terms.

Grounded is a screen time app for Android that puts you in control. Three blocking modes (on-demand, daily budget, frequency cap), automatic schedules, and a task reward system where kids earn screen time back by completing parent-approved chores. Built for adults who want real limits on their own habits, and parents who want a calmer system with their kids.

My wife wanted to get serious about her own screen time, and deal with our kid's at the same time. Nothing on the market did both well, so I built it. For herself: she wanted blocking that felt like a commitment she made, not a cage someone put her in. On-demand blocks when she needs to focus, a daily budget for the apps she tends to scroll, a frequency cap so she notices when she's opened Instagram for the fifth time. For our kid: a task system where he earns screen time back by doing chores. She sets the tasks, approves them when done, he unlocks his apps. Turns arguments into a simple process.

Who hunted Grounded?

Grounded was hunted by Lixiang Dong. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
