GitHub's AI coding agent that picks and combines models
GitHub Copilot Fusion takes the guesswork out of choosing AI models for coding. Instead of picking one model, Fusion automatically routes each task to suitable models and combines them when needed. One model can write code while another reviews or improves it. Choose Standard, High, or Max effort to balance speed, quality, and cost. Available across GitHub Copilot plans in VS Code, Copilot CLI, the Copilot app, and JetBrains IDEs.
GitHub just launched Copilot Fusion, and I think this is a pretty useful idea.
Instead of constantly deciding which AI model to use for coding, you select Fusion and let it figure that out. For harder tasks, it can even use multiple models together — one writes the solution, another reviews it.
GitHub says Fusion Max gets close to Claude Code with Opus 5.5 Max on Artificial Analysis benchmarks, at roughly half the average API cost per task.
It's available now across Copilot plans. Curious to see how well the automatic model selection works in real projects.
