GitDesktop
The Git client for your entire development workflow
GitDesktop is a local-first desktop Git client that keeps your entire development workflow in one place. Stage changes, create pull requests, review code, track CI, and manage issues across GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket. Bring your own AI with Claude Code, Codex, Copilot CLI, OpenCode, or Ollama—or hide AI entirely.
This project started because I realized I was spending my day bouncing between my IDE, GitHub Desktop, GitHub, CI dashboards, and AI tools.
The repository was local.
The workflow wasn't.
I wanted one application I could keep open all day that handled the entire development loop—from commits to pull requests, reviews, discussions, CI, and eventually AI-assisted development.
Another important goal was avoiding lock-in.
I already use Claude, but I didn't want my Git client deciding which AI provider I had to pay for. So GitDesktop lets you bring your own provider, your own API key, your own CLI tools, or even your own local Ollama models. If you don't want AI at all, you can hide it completely.
GitDesktop is also local-first. Your repositories stay on your machine. Your credentials stay in your keychain. There are no accounts to create and no remote service sitting between you and your code.
It's built with Tauri 2 and React 19, supports GitHub (including Enterprise), GitLab, and Bitbucket Cloud, and includes an embedded agent workspace for research, planning, implementation, and iterative PR reviews.
There's still a lot I want to build, and I'd genuinely love feedback—especially from people who spend most of their day in Git.
Thanks for checking it out!

Who hunted GitDesktop?
GitDesktop was hunted by Evan Goldberg. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
