Gitash
Turn GitHub issues into actionable AI contribution guides
Gitash lets you browse any public GitHub repo, filter open issues by label, and get a streaming AI-generated contribution plan — with relevant files, step-by-step guide, testing notes, and a suggested branch name. Supports Claude, GPT, and Gemini. Free, privacy-first, open source.
Hey PH — I'm nijil, I built Gitash.
The thing that made me build this: I found a good first issue on a repo I actually
cared about, spent 20 minutes trying to figure out which files to touch, gave up,
closed the tab.
Then I tried asking ChatGPT. It gave me a detailed plan pointing to 3 files that
don't exist in that repo.
So Gitash pulls the actual file tree from GitHub and feeds it into the prompt.
Every file it mentions is a file that's really there. That's the whole idea.
You get: relevant files + why each matters, step-by-step guide for that specific
issue, difficulty/effort estimate, prerequisites, testing notes, gotchas, and a
suggested branch name with one-click Fork and PR links.
Claude, GPT, or Gemini — your key, your browser, never hits our server. Free,
MIT licensed.
Curious what repos you try it on and whether the plans are actually useful.

Who hunted Gitash?
Gitash was hunted by Nijil N M. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
