Git Context
Switch Git identities without the config headache
Ever committed with the wrong email or SSH key? Git Context makes switching between work, personal, and client GitHub or GitLab identities simple. Switch your global Git author and SSH key in one click, see your active profile in the macOS menu bar, and use a keyboard shortcut to switch quickly. Verify SSH authentication, detect configuration issues, and restore backed-up settings. Private keys stay local. Repository overrides and HTTPS credentials remain separate.
Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I built Git Context because switching between work, personal, and client Git accounts kept turning into a configuration chore.
Changing your Git email is only part of the problem. SSH keys, host aliases, and authentication can still point to a different account. I wanted a simple desktop app that makes the selected identity visible and helps you check whether it's configured correctly.
Git Context brings together one-click profiles, a menu-bar indicator, a keyboard switcher, SSH verification, and configuration health checks—with backups before applying changes.
I'd love feedback from developers who juggle multiple accounts: what's the most frustrating part of your current workflow?

1. Work. Personal. Client. One click to switch.
Keep your developer identities organised in profiles.
2. Know which profile is active.
Profile colours and a macOS menu-bar label keep it visible.
3. Switch without leaving your flow.
Open the compact picker with ⌘/Ctrl + Shift + G.
4. Active isn't the same as verified.
Check your configuration and the account your SSH key authenticates as.
5. Spot configuration problems early.
Find missing keys and settings that changed outside the app.
