I'm the maker of GhostTrace. I built this out of personal frustration with how easy it is for AWS S3 costs to quietly inflate without triggering standard billing alarms.
💡 What Inspired This
High-level AWS cost dashboards tell you that you spent money, but they rarely pinpoint why. Things like abandoned multipart uploads (ListMultipartUploads) accumulate gigabytes of unreferenced data, and versioned buckets without NoncurrentVersionExpiration policies continuously charge you for forgotten object states—completely hidden from standard metrics.
🔍 What GhostTrace (S3 Passport) Does
It’s a free, agentless assessment tool that connects securely in under 2 minutes via read-only cross-account STS AssumeRole. It performs instant forensic audits across your entire storage estate to highlight:

🛠️ How It Evolved
GhostTrace started as a rough local Python script I wrote to audit my own cloud footprint. With some pushing and testing support from my peers, I ported the logic to run at the edge on Cloudflare Workers so anyone could run a quick 30-second assessment for free.
