GearMate

Switch Claude Code models with a real stick shift

GearMate is a macOS menu-bar app that puts a stick shift on your live Claude Code session. Throw the lever into a gate and it sends /model to your tmux pane, so the next prompt runs on that model: Haiku for quick errands, Sonnet as the daily driver, Opus for heavy lifting, Opus Plan in 5th. R takes you back to your default. Remap gears, shift from the menu bar, preview with dry run. Needs tmux + Claude Code. Independent, not affiliated with Anthropic.

Hi Product Hunt! I'm Roshan, the maker of GearMate. If you live in Claude Code, you probably switch models a lot: Haiku for quick fixes, Opus for the hard stuff, Opus Plan for big changes. Typing /model every time breaks the flow, and it's easy to forget to switch back and keep burning Opus on trivial prompts. GearMate turns that into a stick shift. It lives in your macOS menu bar; throw the lever into a gate and it sends /model into your live Claude Code pane via tmux, so your next prompt runs on that model. 1st is Haiku, 4th is Opus, 5th is Opus Plan, and R takes you straight back to your default. You can remap any gear, shift right from the menu bar, and use dry run to see the exact command before it's sent. Pricing: one-time ₹499 (~$6), no subscription. macOS (Apple Silicon) for now, and it needs tmux + Claude Code. It's an independent project, not affiliated with Anthropic. I'd love honest feedback: which model would you put in which gear, and what should GearMate support next?
