Fusebox
Spend-ceiling alerts for solo OpenAI API users
Fusebox emails you at 50/80/100% of a monthly ceiling you set, before your OpenAI bill turns a side project into a bad month. It connects with an OpenAI Admin key scoped to api.usage.read only, nothing else, so it cannot touch billing, other keys, or your org's members. Built for the one person actually paying the invoice, not a team's finance dashboard.
Hey, maker here. I kept seeing people get blindsided by OpenAI bills - a retry loop left running overnight, or a demo link shared wider than intended. Team observability tools exist, but they're built for a finance meeting, not a hobbyist who just wants a heads-up before $12 becomes $300.
Before writing any code, I checked what kind of access key I'd actually need. OpenAI lets you scope an Admin key to exactly api.usage.read and nothing else - genuinely safe to hand to a third-party tool. I checked the same thing for Claude and Anthropic's Console admin keys are currently all-or-nothing for individual accounts, so Claude support is on hold until that changes - wrote up the full story at /story on the site if you're curious.
Would love feedback, especially on whether the OpenAI-only limitation is a dealbreaker for people here.

Who hunted Fusebox?
Fusebox was hunted by Sifat Ahmed. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
