Fungible for Desktop

Local-first, open-source, no account needed

Fungible is a local-first personal finance app. No account, no cloud, your data stays on your Mac. Connect bank accounts via Plaid, import CSVs, set category rules, and track spending trends. v1.6.4 ships a full desktop GUI alongside the existing terminal interface: 10 screens, a filter panel, an AI chat drawer powered by your own API key, and native installers for macOS, Windows, and Linux. Open source, MIT licensed.

I built this because nothing has felt as good as Mint since Mint died, and I didn't want to pay a subscription for features that should just be table stakes. Fungible is free. It integrates with Plaid to link accounts and pull transactions automatically, and Plaid has a hobbyist tier that costs nothing, so the whole stack is free as long as that exists. You can also import CSVs for older history or accounts Plaid doesn't support. Beyond the basics there's an AI chat drawer where you can ask questions about your finances. It can see your transactions, categories, trends, all of it. Fully BYO credentials: I have no servers, so it's just between you and Plaid/your LLM provider. There's also a canvas feature where you describe a financial question and the agent builds a custom calculator for it. It is useful for anything with compounding, amortization, or what-if scenarios. The CLI version has been my daily driver, but some folks are more comfortable with a traditional desktop app. Today's launch adds a full GUI: native installers for macOS, Windows, and Linux, a filter panel, spending trends, and the AI chat drawer. Fully open source under MIT. Happy to answer anything about how it works, the Plaid integration, or the MCP server for Claude/ChatGPT.
