Fretless
Touch, slide, loop- a fretless string instrument for Android
Fretless turns your Android into a continuous-pitch string instrument — no frets, no fixed notes, just expressive control. Slide anywhere on the string to play any frequency in real time. SNAP mode locks to semitones when you want scales. Shift octaves up or down on the fly. The built-in looper records up to 30 seconds — you can play back at 1x or 2x and layer yourself live. Made by a solo dev who's been a classical musician from a young age
Hey PH! I built Fretless because I wanted a mobile instrument that felt expressive. Mobile instruments kind of suck. I'm a classical pianist, and I kept thinking about what instruments are actually intuitive to play on a touchscreen. Then it clicked — an Otomatone. You know, those big funny-looking squeeze instruments from Amazon. Fretless is basically that, but real.
The fretless string model lets you bend, slide, and glide between pitches the way you would on a real fretless bass or cello. The looper came out of my own practice sessions being able to jam over yourself on a phone is genuinely useful. It's really no different than humming a tune.
Would love to hear what musicians and experimenters do with it. Happy to answer anything
