FoyerBudget
Fair expense splitting for families, colocs & shared homes
FoyerBudget calculates who owes what in households of any size — couples, flat shares, or multi-generational families. Proportional or per-person splits, AI receipt scanning, open banking, shared savings vault. Built by a dev sharing a 7-person home.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I'm Clément, a solo dev from France. FoyerBudget started as a personal
problem I couldn't solve with any existing tool.
**The mess I was in:**
I share a household with 6 other people — partner, kids (some adults
now working), and an extended family member. Incomes range from €800
(apprentice) to €2,000+ (full-time adult). Splitting expenses 50/50
is absurd at that scale. Tricount/Splitwise are built for vacations
with friends, not recurring monthly charges with different rules per
expense.
For 2 years I maintained an Excel spreadsheet so complex that nobody
in the family could update it. Tensions started showing up at the
end of each month: "wait, why am I paying that much for groceries
I barely ate?" 😅
**So I built FoyerBudget around 3 ideas:**
🔹 **Each expense has its own splitting rule** — rent goes
proportional to income, groceries by person, Netflix by whoever
watches it.
🔹 **Monthly closing tells you exactly who owes whom** — no more
mental math, just clear transfers.
🔹 **It scales beyond couples** — handles flat shares, families,
multi-generational homes. Free up to 1 household / 3 members, paid
tiers unlock more.
**Bonus features I built because I needed them:**
- AI receipt scanning (Gemini) → groceries logged in 3 seconds
- Shared savings vault for joint goals (vacations, new sofa)
- Open Banking (Bunq) for auto-balance tracking
- PWA, no app store dance
**Stack:** Next.js + Firebase + Vercel + Stripe.
**What I'd love from this community:**
1. Does the onboarding make sense for someone outside my context?
2. Pricing — fair, weird, or off?
3. Any sharp edge in the UX that I'm blind to?
Roast me, I'm here all day to answer 🔥
Built with caffeine, family chaos, and zero VC money 🛠️
