The honest answer is frustration.
I kept seeing companies deploy AI on their customer touchpoints, and users immediately knowing it was a bot. Not because it said so, but because it felt like one. Rigid. Scripted. No emotional intelligence.
The problem was not the voice technology. It was that the underlying models were built to answer questions, not to have conversations. There is a big difference.
So we started building FonixAI from a different premise. What if the AI actually understood the weight of what someone was saying, not just the words? What if it could hold context across voice, text, WhatsApp, and web without losing the thread?
We spent months training our own language model specifically on emotionally grounded dialogue. We even open-sourced our empathy training dataset this week, 4,008 multi-turn conversations, because we think the whole ecosystem benefits when this kind of data is publicly available.
Early versions were technically impressive and emotionally flat. Getting the model to not over-explain, to sit in silence when silence was right, to match a human's energy without mimicking it, that took a lot of iteration.
We are still learning. But we are building this in India, for the world, and we genuinely believe emotionally intelligent AI is the next big frontier.
