FolderForge

Customize Mac folders with colors, icons, presets, and rules

FolderForge is a native macOS app for designing custom folder icons with colors, gradients, SF Symbols, emoji, text, images, and ICNS files. Save designs as reusable presets, apply them across entire folder trees, or use Smart Style rules to automatically give matching folders the same style. Everything runs locally, and original icons can be restored at any time. Free and open source.

Hey Product Hunt! A few weeks ago, I realized all my folders looked the same, and customizing them individually was WAY TOO tedious. Over the last few days, I've been building FolderForge to solve it.

It began as a small color and icon tool, then grew to include image fills, reusable presets, recursive styling, and rules that keep similar folders consistent across an entire workspace. Everything runs locally, and original icons can always be restored.

FolderForge is free and open source. I’d especially love feedback on Smart Style, the preset library, and anything that would make it more useful in your workflow.

A Developer ID-signed, Apple-notarized DMG (v1.0.6) is available on GitHub.

The Mac App Store version is currently under review.
