Floating Markdown notes for Mac. Pay once, own your files
Flotnote is a Markdown notepad that floats above every app on your Mac. Hit one shortcut, write the thought down, and get back to work. Every note is a plain Markdown file in a folder you choose, so Obsidian and any other editor can open it right away. Full-text search, wiki-style links, tags, and several floating notes at once. No account, no servers, no subscription.
Hey Product Hunt, I'm Achan. I build Flotnote alone under the name Tiny Ship Sailors.
I kept losing small thoughts because writing one down meant switching to a full notes app. Raycast Notes almost solved it, but unlimited notes sit behind Raycast Pro at $96/year, bundled with a launcher and AI tools I didn't want. Apple Notes doesn't float and keeps your text in a database you can't open.
So I wrote the notepad I wanted.
One shortcut from any app and a Markdown editor floats on top, in under a second. Every note is a plain Markdown file in a folder you choose. Point Obsidian at the same folder and it just works, links and tags included. There's full-text search across all your notes, wiki-style links, tags as you type, and you can float several notes at once.
No account, no servers, no analytics. Your files stay on your Mac.
It's a one-time purchase with a 7-day free trial. For launch, LAUNCH50 takes 50% off, so it's $4.99 instead of $9.99 until October 31. The code is already applied if you buy from flotnote.app.
It's been quietly selling through search for a few months, and this is the first time I'm showing it to a crowd. macOS 13+.
What's the first thing you'd want a floating notepad to do that this one doesn't? I'll be here all day replying.

Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
