A few months ago, we were developing Firebender OS, an AI-powered fork of Android. Inspired by the failed launches of Humane Pin and Rabbit R1, we aimed to build better functionality by focusing on AI software and leveraging existing superior hardware. We rooted Pixel 8s and created an AI assistant activated by holding the power button. It automated tasks like drafting calendar invites and messages, opening relevant transportation apps based on location and schedule, and overriding the Google Gemini assistant with the best AI models. Despite using it every day, we didn't LOVE the product, which led us to consider a new direction.
