Fern - Eating Disorder Recovery
Private meal, mood, and Eating Disorder recovery
Fern is an eating disorder recovery companion built by someone who has lived through recovery. Most recovery apps focus on strict tracking and clinical workflows. Fern takes a gentler approach, helping users understand patterns in meals, moods, urges, and behaviors without feeling overwhelmed. Fern provides a private space for reflection, recovery resources, and optional care team summaries.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I'm Ian, and Fern is a project that came directly from my own recovery journey.
I'm 26 years old and currently in recovery from anorexia. During treatment, I tried a lot of recovery apps. While many were built with good intentions, I often found them overwhelming, overly clinical, or difficult to stick with consistently. Eventually, I'd stop using them and go back to pen and paper.
That experience made me realize something: recovery is already hard enough. The tools meant to support it shouldn't feel like another burden.
So I spent the last year building Fern—a simple, private recovery companion designed to support people in the moments between appointments and treatment sessions.
Fern allows users to track meals, moods, and behaviors in a flexible way, access recovery resources, and share simple summaries with their care team if they choose. All personal data stays stored locally on the device.
This isn't a replacement for treatment, and I'm definitely not claiming to have all the answers. My goal was simply to build something I wish I had during my own recovery.
I'd genuinely love feedback from this community. Whether it's about the product, the experience, or the problem space itself, I'm here to learn.
Thank you for checking out Fern ❤️
