Feline Finder - When Adopting
Find your perfect rescue cat — and know why with AI
Find adoptable shelter cats with explainable AI. Feline Finder matches people to 36 cat personality types, shows trait scores with visual bar charts, and highlights the shelter text behind each score. You can also search in plain English and see the filters animate to match what the AI understood.
Feline Finder: Find Your Perfect Rescue Cat — and Know Why
Adopting a cat should feel exciting, not overwhelming.
Most pet adoption apps give you a long list of cats, a few basic filters, and a short description. Then you scroll. And scroll. And scroll. You guess which cat might be a good fit based on a photo, an age, a location, or a few sentences written by a shelter volunteer.
Feline Finder was built to make that experience smarter, more personal, and more transparent.
Instead of only asking, “Which cats are nearby?” Feline Finder asks a better question:
Which adoptable cats actually fit your personality, home, and lifestyle — and why?
What Feline Finder does
Feline Finder helps people discover adoptable rescue cats using AI-powered personality matching.
You can adjust sliders for traits like playfulness, affection, independence, sociability, calmness, energy, and lap-cat tendencies. As you set your preferences, Feline Finder compares them against adoptable cats and shows your best matches.
But the important part is not just the match.
Feline Finder also explains the match.
Each cat can include trait scores, personality signals, and evidence from the shelter description so you can understand why that cat may be playful, affectionate, shy, energetic, gentle, or independent.
This makes the experience more like a thoughtful recommendation system than a basic pet search.
Search naturally — by typing or speaking
Feline Finder also includes natural-language search.
Instead of forcing users to hunt through dozens of filters, they can simply type or speak what they want.
For example:
“I want a calm lap cat who is good with kids.”
or:
“Find me a playful kitten near me.”
Feline Finder interprets the request and chooses the matching filters automatically.
Then it does something important: it shows what it chose.
The app animates the selected filters so users can see how their words were translated into search criteria. That makes the search feel transparent instead of magical or hidden. Users are not just getting mysterious AI results — they can watch the app explain its choices visually.
This turns advanced filtering into something simple, conversational, and understandable.
A breed library for learning, not just searching
Feline Finder is not only about finding adoptable cats. It also helps users learn about cat breeds.
The breed library explains breeds through a combination of:
Text descriptions
Personality and trait charts
Photos or visual context
Videos
This gives adopters a richer way to understand different breeds and breed tendencies before or during their search.
Instead of only seeing a breed name on a profile, users can explore what that breed may be like, how it tends to behave, and whether it might fit their lifestyle.
The breed library helps turn adoption into an educational experience, not just a browsing experience.
Why I built it
I love cats, and I wanted adoption search to feel more human.
A cat is not just a set of filters. A cat has a personality. Some cats want constant attention. Some are shy at first. Some are toy addicts. Some are couch companions. Some are independent roommates. Some are chaotic little goblins in the best possible way.
Traditional adoption search does not do a great job of helping people understand those differences.
I wanted Feline Finder to help adopters look beyond the cutest photo and start thinking about compatibility.
Not just:
“Is this cat nearby?”
But:
“Would this cat actually fit my life?”
Explainable AI, not black-box matching
One of the main ideas behind Feline Finder is explainability.
AI recommendations are much more useful when people can understand them. Feline Finder is designed to show why a cat is a match instead of simply saying, “Trust the algorithm.”
The app can highlight personality traits and connect them back to evidence from the cat’s description. That means users can make better adoption decisions with more confidence.
For example, if a cat scores high on affection or playfulness, the goal is to show the clues that led to that conclusion.
The natural-language search follows the same philosophy. When the app turns a spoken or typed request into filters, it shows the user what happened through animation.
That makes the AI feel less mysterious and more helpful.
Flexible search for real adopters
Feline Finder also includes a flexible search system with many filters, including personality and lifestyle preferences.
The search screen is dynamic, so the app can support a large number of search options without forcing users through a rigid quiz. Users can search in their own way, adjust what matters to them, and explore cats based on what they care about most.
The goal is to make adoption discovery feel less like filling out a form and more like a guided exploration.
You can use the sliders, use traditional filters, type a natural-language request, or speak your search out loud. Feline Finder is designed to meet users where they are.
Built for rescue cats
Feline Finder focuses on adoptable cats from rescue and shelter listings.
The mission is simple:
Help more people find cats they connect with.
Help rescue cats stand out for who they are, not just what they look like.
Help adopters make more thoughtful choices.
Who it is for
Feline Finder is for:
People thinking about adopting a cat
People who want more than basic breed, age, and location filters
People who care about personality fit
People overwhelmed by endless pet profiles
People who want to search by typing or speaking naturally
People who want to see why filters and matches were chosen
People who want to learn about cat breeds before adopting
Rescue cat lovers who want a smarter adoption experience
What makes it different
Feline Finder combines several ideas that are usually separate:
Personality-based matching
AI-assisted trait analysis
Explainable recommendations
Natural-language search
Voice search
Animated filter selection
Flexible advanced filtering
Breed education with text, charts, and video
Rescue cat discovery
A visual, approachable adoption experience
It is not just a cat database. It is a way to help adopters understand cats better.
The bigger vision
Feline Finder is starting with cat discovery, personality matching, natural-language search, and breed education, but the larger vision is to make adoption more guided, transparent, and connected.
In the future, this kind of system could help with shelter onboarding, adopter education, meet-and-greet scheduling, and better communication between adopters and rescue organizations.
The long-term goal is to make pet adoption easier for humans and better for animals.
Try Feline Finder
Feline Finder is now live, and I would love feedback from people who care about cats, rescue adoption, AI recommendations, product design, voice interfaces, or explainable AI.
If you have ever searched through pages of adoptable cats and thought, “There has to be a smarter way to find the right one,” Feline Finder was built for you.
