**The Inspiration**
We initially built Faux API out of a very common developer frustration: the endless bottleneck of waiting on backend infrastructure just to test a frontend idea. We wanted to make creating mock APIs entirely frictionless—no complex setups, just immediate, reliable data endpoints so teams could keep moving.
**The Problem**
As AI coding assistants like Claude and Cursor took off, we noticed a massive shift in how people build. But we also noticed a new, incredibly frustrating problem: context token drain. Developers and founders were wasting thousands of AI tokens forcing their assistants to repeatedly simulate backends, write tedious boilerplate server code, or handle messy database configurations from scratch, over and over again.
**The Evolution**
Our approach evolved entirely because of the Model Context Protocol (MCP). We realized Faux API shouldn't just be a destination you visit to click around and copy mock URLs—it needed to be a native extension of the AI tools you are already using..
