FactScope
Context and evidence for claims you encounter online
FactScope is a Chrome verification assistant for pages and images. It extracts checkable claims, surfaces matching reporting and direct evidence when available, separates source signals from factual evidence, and keeps uncertainty visible.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
FactScope began as a hackathon idea around a problem that kept bothering me: when something online looks questionable, properly investigating it usually means opening several tabs, rewriting searches, comparing reports, and still wondering what actually counts as evidence.
I wanted to make that first investigation easier without replacing the user’s judgment.
FactScope works directly in Chrome. When you explicitly scan a page or image, it can:
• break the content into checkable claims
• surface matching reporting and broader context
• show direct supporting or contradicting evidence when available
• separate publisher and presentation signals from factual evidence
• review image manipulation indicators, caption consistency, and visible source clues
• create a public verification snapshot that anyone can inspect
One deliberate decision was not to make FactScope a “truth detector.” Missing coverage does not automatically make a claim false, and matching headlines do not necessarily confirm every detail. The uncertainty and limitations remain visible.
FactScope is currently in free public beta with no account required and 10 scans per day.
I’d especially value feedback on three things:
1. Are the evidence labels understandable?
2. Does the extension help you investigate faster?
3. Where does it provide too much—or too little—context?
Thanks for taking a look. I’ll be here answering questions and listening closely to feedback.
