F8t (Focal Point)
iOS light meter, shot log and roll tracker for film shooters
Every iOS light meter app I tried treated all film the same: one ISO, one reciprocity curve, no roll context. F8t is different. Per-stock reciprocity for 30+ films, multi-spot Zone System, leaf shutter flash sync per camera, shot log with GPS and EXIF info card auto-saved to your camera roll, MF film back tracking, sun widget. 800+ cameras and films in the gear DB. SwiftUI, no backend, no account, all data on-device. One-time purchase EUR 14.99, no subscription, ever.
Hey Product Hunt,
I am Ivor, solo iOS developer and a hobby film photographer. F8t is the app I wanted to exist.
I shoot a Hasselblad 500C, a Canon AE-1 Program and an A-1. Six years back into film. I have a Sekonic L-208 Twin Mate but I used various light meter apps more often, and none of them solved everything. None knew which film I had loaded. None remembered my reciprocity tables. None warned me before I pushed past leaf shutter sync on a Hasselblad lens.
So for six years I also carried a notebook to write shot notes by hand. After scanning, I manually typed locations and exposures into EXIF on every scan. Frame by frame, years of it.
That's why I took months of nights and weekends and built F8t. The approach evolved: started as a "smarter light meter app", but every weekend I noticed something else the notebook was doing that the app should do. After about six months it stopped being a meter app with extras and became a workflow tool with metering as the entry point.
What is in v1.0: light meter (5 modes, multi-spot Zone System), per-stock reciprocity (HP5, Tri-X, Portra, Velvia, Acros, Kentmere and 25+ more), shot log with GPS and EXIF info card auto-saved to your camera roll, roll tracking per camera body + MF film backs, flash math with leaf shutter sync, sun widget, 800+ items in gear DB.
Stack: SwiftUI, AVFoundation, CoreLocation, WidgetKit. No backend, no account, all data on device. Localized to 10 languages. One-time purchase EUR 14.99, no subscription, ever.
