Emailclaw is a local-first AI agent that lives in your inbox. You send an email, the agent does the thinking and the tool work, and the result comes back to the same email thread. No new app to install, no new chat tool to learn. Just email, everyone already has on every device. The product is built on one simple rule: New Subject, New Project. A brand-new subject line creates an independent task with its own session, its own project folder on disk, and a TaskId appended to the subject.
Hi Product Hunt!
I built Emailclaw because I kept hitting the same wall with AI agents: getting real work done always meant learning yet another chat app, migrating my files and context into it, and then losing track of which conversation was which task. So I flipped the model — the agent comes to your inbox, not the other way around.
The whole design rests on a single principle:
### New Subject, New Project.
A new email subject creates a dedicated project — its own session, its own folder on disk, and a TaskId appended to the subject that binds every later reply to the same context. Starting a task costs one new subject line; returning to a task costs one reply to an old email. Your inbox doubles as the searchable archive of everything you've ever delegated.
A few things I'm especially proud of:
- From a phone, on a plane, with zero setup — fire off a competitive-analysis task with attachments, and the summary email arrives before you board.
- Local-first by default — projects, sessions, attachments, files, and logs live on your machine. No cloud account, no vendor lock-in.
- The agent asks before it acts — sensitive tool calls come back as an approval email with a four-digit code; approve, reject, or let it time out. The whole audit trail stays in your mailbox.
- Automation that stays conversational — schedule a morning report with Cron, then reply to that email to follow up in the same project.
- An old laptop becomes a 24/7 assistant — user-level systemd service, pure outbound connections, no router configuration.
It's free and open source (MIT), with browser automation, Office/PDF skills, MCP, and a plugin system.
The fastest way to feel it: install the desktop app, connect any email (the easiest way is to use system provided email), and send the first task. Try asking it to summarize your competitor's latest release, or draft next quarter's report.
