Hi everyone, I wanted to share a little about why I started building Editx. For the past several years, I've been working in the Digital Asset Management (DAM) space. During that time, I was one of the maintainers of Filerobot Image Editor, and later I also worked on a browser-based video editor and template design app. Working on both projects made me think less about adding features and more about the architecture behind creative software. Questions like: • How can an editor be customized without forking it? • How can the editing engine stay independent from the UI? • How can the same foundation support image editing today and other creative experiences tomorrow? As I looked deeper into these questions, I started studying how professional creative applications are built. Not because I wanted to recreate their features, but because I wanted to understand why they could continue evolving over many years while remaining flexible. One thing I realized is that the web ecosystem is missing a modern, open-source foundation for creative editing. There are great commercial SDKs with years of engineering behind them, and there are excellent open-source image editors. But I couldn't find an open-source project that was designed from the beginning to be highly extensible, UI-independent, and adaptable to modern products and design trends. That eventually became the motivation for Editx. The first package is an image editor because that's the problem I know best, but my goal wasn't simply to build another image editor. I wanted to experiment with a foundation that could be reused across different kinds of creative applications while remaining fully open source. It's still early, and I'm sure there are plenty of things that can be improved. If you're interested, feel free to try it out, explore the code, and let me know what you think. Whether it's feedback on the API, the overall approach, the developer experience, or ideas for improvement, I'd genuinely appreciate it.
