Open-source privacy-first messaging platform
EchoID began as a side project while I was studying physics, driven by a curiosity about how modern communication platforms work. It has grown into a privacy-first messaging and social platform featuring anonymous identities, communities, real-time messaging, WebRTC voice and video calls, and hybrid RSA+AES encryption. Currently in public beta, it's open source and built to explore secure, minimal-data communication with transparency and community feedback.
I'm the developer behind **EchoID**, and I'm excited (and a little nervous) to finally share it here.
I started building EchoID while studying physics because I wanted to understand how modern messaging platforms actually work under the hood. What began as a simple chat application gradually evolved into a privacy-first messaging and social platform focused on anonymous communication, secure messaging, and collecting as little user data as possible.
One of the ideas I wanted to explore was whether anonymous interactions could be designed so that identities remain unlinkable through the platform's architecture, rather than simply hiding usernames. That challenge shaped many of the project's design decisions.
EchoID is currently in **public beta**, so there are still rough edges and plenty of improvements to make. The frontend is already open source, and I'm preparing the backend for release after cleaning up deployment-specific code and documentation.
I'd especially love feedback on:
* Privacy and security * UI/UX * Architecture * Performance * Features that feel unnecessary or over-engineered
