Easy SSH is a free, open-source SSH client inside VS Code, Cursor and other VS Code-based editors. Save hosts, use jump hosts, import ~/.ssh/config, and Ctrl+click any file name in the shell to download, edit, rename or delete it. Drop files to upload. Nothing to install on the server.
Hi Product Hunt! I'm the maker of Easy SSH.
I kept switching between two tools. Running `ssh` in the editor's terminal is fine until I need a file, and then it's a separate `scp` with the path typed out again. Remote-SSH is great for real development, but it installs an editor server on the host, which I didn't want for "read a log, grab a dump, fix one config" on small or locked-down servers.
So Easy SSH opens a normal terminal tab with your saved hosts. Pick one and you get a real login shell (vim, top and sudo all work). Then:
- Ctrl+click (Cmd+click on macOS) a file name the shell printed: Download, Open in an editor tab (Ctrl+S saves it back), Rename, Delete
- Ctrl+click a folder: download all of it, or upload into it
- Drop files on the terminal to upload them to the current folder
- Jump hosts, ~/.ssh/config import, password / key / agent sign-in, and a Test connection button before you save
It runs entirely in your editor (Node's ssh2 library plus SFTP), so nothing is installed on the server. It works in VS Code 1.74+, Cursor, VSCodium, Windsurf and code-server, and it's MIT licensed.
Limitations: Linux/Unix servers only, and folder tracking needs bash, zsh or fish.
