I'm the solo developer behind Eastern Divination.
Why I built this:
I've been fascinated by the I Ching (Book of Changes) for years. It's not just a
"fortune telling" system — it's a 3000-year-old framework for understanding change
and making decisions. Leibniz discovered binary numbers studying it. Carl Jung used
it as the basis for synchronicity theory.
But trying to use it today is frustrating:
- Most apps reduce 3000 years of philosophy to "good luck today!" fortune cookie messages
- Academic resources require reading classical Chinese or dense scholarly commentary
- Nothing bridges the gap between respecting the tradition and making it accessible
So I built that bridge, using AI to connect classical texts with modern language —
while always keeping the source text visible and referenced.
How the AI works differently here:
The AI isn't "making up" interpretations. It's constrained to:
1. Reference the specific line texts from James Legge's 1882 translation
2. Consider the hexagram's position in the King Wen sequence
3. Relate the abstract symbolism to your specific question
It's interpretation, not invention.
