Double Cross
A daily crossword where every clue has two answers
Every clue fits two answers of equal length — twin slots in a symmetric grid, and nothing tells you which answer goes where. The crossing letters do. Fill the grid, seal it once. A new verified-fair puzzle every day. No ads, no signup, no account.
I built Double Cross as a gift for my mom, who does the NYT crossword and Octordle every single morning — I wanted to give her a daily game she couldn't already play anywhere.
The twist: the grid's symmetry is the mechanic. Every slot has a twin of exactly the same length, one clue honestly serves both answers ("Big cat" → LION and PUMA), and you have to earn the placement from the crossings. You pencil the whole grid, then seal it once — right everywhere wins, anything less costs one of four lamps.
Every day's puzzle is machine-verified before it ships: exactly one consistent solution, always solvable by pure deduction, never a forced guess. The whole game is one static HTML page.
My mom was the QA department. She approved. Would love to hear what you think — and if you beat her to a Flawless seal, I'll pass it along.
