DogHood began with a simple question: Why does raising a dog often feel so lonely in an age of endless online advice? When co-founder Purvi Janardhan brought home her dog, Oreo, she expected the joys of companionship, excitement, and unconditional love. She found all of that—but she also encountered something less talked about: uncertainty. In moments that mattered most, from health scares to training challenges, the internet offered plenty of information, but very little trust. There was no easy way to know whose advice to follow or where to turn for support. At the same time, co-founder Ruchi Joshi was living the exact opposite experience. Known as her neighborhood's "go-to dog person," Ruchi had organically built a hyper-local support network, helping fellow dog owners with everything from pet-sitting to trusted recommendations. Friends and neighbors naturally turned to her for advice, introductions, and support because they trusted her - and each other. When Purvi and Ruchi met through Oreo, the realization was immediate: what felt natural in one neighborhood was missing for millions of dog owners everywhere. Dogs had always been bringing neighbors together - in parks, on sidewalks, and in everyday life. What was missing wasn't the community. It was the infrastructure to help those connections continue beyond the walk. Combining Purvi's deep technology and entrepreneurial expertise with Ruchi's gift for building meaningful human connections, the two became the perfect founding team. Together, they set out to build that missing infrastructure - using technology to strengthen the trusted local communities that dogs naturally create. As they often say, DogHood exists because technology and community are equally important - and neither works without the other.
