Hey Product Hunt! 👋
The honest origin story: I was building an AI agent on Windows and watching it take a 4MB screenshot just to find the right Chrome tab to click. Then it'd misidentify the tab, take another screenshot, try again... burning thousands of tokens on something a human does in half a second.
That's when I realized — the desktop has no API. Everything an AI agent "sees" is a blurry pixel grid. That's insane in 2025.
So I built Dockly to fix that.
The original version was just a quick REST endpoint — dump all open windows + Chrome tabs as JSON so my agent could read them. Ugly, but it worked instantly. Token usage dropped by ~95%.
Then I thought: if I'm already reading all this data in real-time, why not surface it as a side panel for me too? That's how the human sidebar was born — a dark-mode panel that slides in with Ctrl+Shift+Space showing every open app, Chrome tab, and terminal across all profiles at once.
The hardest part was Chrome's multi-profile isolation — it genuinely blocks cross-profile data access. I had to build a browser extension that syncs each profile separately back to Dockly. Once that clicked, the whole thing came together.
