Discern
Swipe left for AI, right for real. How good is your eye?
Discern is a swipe game that tests whether you can spot AI-generated photos. See a photo, swipe left for AI or right for real. An Elo system rates both you and the images so the game gets harder as you improve, while easier images find their way to newer players. The image library grows itself around the clock from real photo sources and multiple AI generators at different quality levels. No sign-up, no ads, no tracking. Free to play, open source.
Hey everyone! I built Discern because I noticed how hard it's getting to tell real photos from AI-generated ones. Most people are worse at spotting fakes than they think.
So I made a game out of it. You see a photo, you swipe. That's it.
What makes it interesting under the hood:
- Both players and images have Elo ratings. As you get better, the game serves you more convincing AI images. New players get the easier ones first.
- The image pipeline runs 24/7 with zero manual work. Real photos come from Unsplash, Pexels, and Pixabay. AI images come from four different generators (Gemini, Flux, Stable Diffusion, Workers AI) at varying quality levels, which creates a natural difficulty curve.
- The whole thing runs on Cloudflare's stack for nearly nothing. Open source if you want to poke around.
I built this solo over a few days. No accounts, no ads, no tracking. Just photos and your judgment.
Curious to hear: how good do you think you are at spotting AI photos? And if you play a few rounds, did your confidence match your actual accuracy?
