Dictee
Talk hands-free in any Mac app, offline in 99 languages
Dictee is local-only, hands-free AI voice dictation for any Mac app. No account required. Talk to Claude Code, Codex, ChatGPT, or any AI tool without holding a key or hitting send. It detects when you’re done and presses Enter for you. Switch between three speech models for faster typing, higher accuracy, or 99-language coverage.
I’m Carl Yang, the maker of Dictee. I’m a software engineer, and I spend a lot of my day typing: coding with Claude Code and Codex, asking ChatGPT questions, writing Slack messages, sending emails, and taking notes.
I started to notice how often typing slowed me down. Speaking was just much faster. So I tried the most popular AI dictation apps I could find.
But the workflow still felt awkward: - I had to hold a key while speaking - I had to release, wait, then press Enter myself - I had to trust a cloud service with everything I said - I didn’t always know which speech model I was using - As a multilingual speaker, I wanted stronger support beyond English
So I built Dictee to solve those problems directly:
- Hands-free by default: talk without holding a key - Auto-send: Dictee detects when you’re done and presses Enter for you - Local-only: your voice stays on your Mac - Model control: switch between three speech models for faster speed, higher accuracy, or 99-language coverage
Dictee works in any Mac app: Claude Code, Codex, ChatGPT, Slack, Notes, your browser, your editor, or wherever your cursor is. No account is required. You can start the 7-day free trial right after downloading, and if you decide to pay, just enter the license key we send you. Easy peasy.
If you spend a lot of time talking to AI tools, think faster than you type, jump between apps all day, write in multiple languages, or simply want private voice typing, I’d love for you to try Dictee.
I’d love to hear what feels useful, what feels missing, and how Dictee fits into your daily workflow.
Thank you all for your attention to Dictee, and I'm eagerly await your feedback!
