Declotr really started from a very personal frustration. I’ve always loved fashion, and I kept seeing how much fashion was being bought, sold and passed around, but the process was still so scattered. You’d find something you liked on Instagram, message someone on WhatsApp, negotiate, worry about payment, delivery, whether the item was actually available… it was just a lot. I kept thinking, there has to be a better way to do this. So the idea behind Declotr was really to make buying and selling fashion feel easier, safer and more organised, while also giving people a proper place to discover and resell fashion. When we started, I thought more about the product itself, what features we needed, how the marketplace should work, how people would list and buy. But as we got closer to launch, I realised that building the product was only one part of it. We also had to think deeply about trust, the experience for both buyers and sellers, delivery, how people discover the platform, and what would actually make someone come back and use it again. A lot of our thinking has honestly evolved from listening to the people using Declotr. We launched with an idea of what we thought people needed, and then the users started showing us what they actually needed. So we’ve had to stay very open, test things, learn quickly and keep improving. I think that’s probably been the biggest part of the process for me, realising that you don’t have to have everything figured out before you start. You just have to be willing to start, listen, and keep building.
