Most trackers ask you to build a habit: pick a date, set a reminder, keep a streak. DaysSince drops all three. You name a thing once, and after that the record is a photo - the shutter time is the timestamp. There is nothing to remember and nothing to check in on, so you look when you feel like looking. It never notifies you and there is no streak to keep. You can also bulk-import photos you already have; lined up under one item, they show intervals you never noticed.
I'm the only person working on this.
It started with water filters. I kept buying replacements for ones I'd already
changed, and leaving the ones I hadn't. The apps I tried wanted a date picker and
a reminder, and I stopped opening them within a week.
So the rule became: the photo is the record. You name a thing once, and after
that the shutter time is the only input.
The effect I did not expect was on my own head. Once the app held the dates, I
stopped carrying them around - there is no notification to brace for and no
streak to protect, so I look when I feel like looking and the answer is there.
That turned out to be the point of the whole thing.
Later I added bulk import from the gallery, because most people already have
years of photos sitting on their phone. Lining mine up told me I had been wrong
about most of it. The restaurant I think of as my regular: months, not the few
weeks I'd have guessed. Same for the last time I saw a friend I talk about all
the time. And I had been out fishing far more often than I'd have said.
Which is also why there is no fixed list of what goes in it. The photo only has
to be something you will recognise later - where you put the tool you use twice
a year, what you ate with someone, the front of a shop. I built this for filter
changes. It did not stay there.
It doesn't notify you and it doesn't count streaks. Records sit on the phone;
the Drive backup is opt-in. Free for three items per category.
So I would rather ask than guess: what would you point it at?
