Hi everyone, I'm Oussama, and I build InDesign plugins at Lingway.

DataInk started from something I kept seeing with designers who lay out annual reports and magazines: the charts arrive from Excel or Illustrator as pasted pictures, they never quite match the document's styles, and every time a figure changes they get redrawn by hand.

DataInk builds the chart inside InDesign instead, from real paths, rectangles and text frames. It uses your swatches and paragraph styles, can stay linked to an InDesign table, and updates in place when the numbers change. 13 chart types, Excel, Numbers and CSV import, and colleagues don't need the plugin to open or print your files.

Version 1.1 adds optional AI with your own OpenAI, Claude or Gemini key, or a local model: it reads a table from a PDF report or a screenshot, changes a chart when you ask in words, and suggests titles and alt text. Your figures go straight to your provider, never to us. It's a one-time purchase, no subscription.

I'd love your feedback on two things:

  1. Which chart types are missing for your work?

  2. Would you use the AI import from PDFs, or do you mostly start from spreadsheets?
