Cumulus- Save direct to your cloud

Skip your machine, save direct into cloud

Google's official "Save to Google Drive" extension broke this year and was abandoned. Cumulus is the replacement — rebuilt properly for MV3. Right-click any image, link, video or audio to send it to Drive. Intercept downloads before they hit your disk. Bulk save all images on a page. Screenshot to Drive. Auto-sort into tidy dated and typed subfolders. Uses drive.file scope only — Cumulus is physically unable to see anything else in your Drive.

Hey Product Hunt! 👋 The story starts with frustration. Google's official "Save to Google Drive" extension — the one with 6 million users — broke earlier this year due to deprecated OAuth and was essentially abandoned. Every time I tried to save something to Drive, it just errored out. I got annoyed enough to build a replacement. That turned into Cumulus. The core idea is simple: why should a file ever touch your hard drive if you just want it in the cloud? You see a PDF, a dataset, an image — you want it in Drive — but the browser insists on downloading it to your disk first. Cumulus cuts out that middle step entirely. What I'm most proud of technically: the extension uses Google's drive.file scope, which means it is physically incapable of seeing anything in your Drive except files it created. Most extensions ask for way more than they need. I wanted Cumulus to be the extension you could actually trust. The hardest part of building this wasn't the code — it was Chrome's MV3 service worker model. Getting Google OAuth to work reliably without a popup (service workers can't open popups) took a lot of trial and error. The solution was using chrome.identity.getAuthToken directly and exchanging it for a Firebase token over REST — no SDK, no popup, clean and reliable. What Cumulus does today: → Right-click save any image, link, video or audio straight to Drive → Intercept downloads before they hit your disk (Pro) → Bulk save all images or file links on a page at once (Pro) → Screenshot the current tab to Drive (Pro) → Auto-sort into dated and typed subfolders → Skip duplicates, auto-clean old files Free plan covers 15 saves/day — honestly enough for most people. Pro is $3/month for unlimited everything. I built this solo, shipped it in a few weeks, and I'm genuinely using it every day now. Would love to hear what you think — especially if something doesn't work the way you'd expect. I'm here all day to respond. 🙏
