Hi, I’m Nick. By day, I’m a WordPress developer, and by night I’m a freelance musician, which means I spend a lot of my life building things, fixing things, and occasionally wondering how something that worked perfectly five minutes ago has suddenly gone sideways. CSS Guardrail came out of one of those moments. I had made a small CSS mistake on a WordPress site, but the symptoms didn’t look like CSS at all. I spent hours checking plugins, templates, scripts, and anything else that seemed like a reasonable suspect before finally finding the actual problem buried in the stylesheet. The fix took seconds; figuring out where to look took most of the day. That experience wasn’t especially dramatic or unusual, which is exactly why it stuck with me. Developers make mistakes. Clients make mistakes. People copy and paste the wrong thing, miss a brace, leave a comment open, or edit a live site while tired and distracted. WordPress makes direct CSS editing very convenient, but it doesn’t give us much of a safety net before those changes are saved. I started building CSS Guardrail because I wanted that safety net for my own work. It gradually became something I thought might help other WordPress developers, freelancers, agencies, and site owners avoid the same kind of frustrating afternoon. This is a solo project, and I’m still learning the product side of things as I go, so honest feedback would mean a lot.
