Crumbs Time Tracking
When you don't have time to track your time
Crumbs quietly checks in a few times a day. You answer with one line about what you were doing, and it builds a trail of your day. No timers, no timesheets. Every crumb lands in a searchable Logbook, and Reports turns the same notes into totals by category, project or client. Local-first: your trail lives in one file on your own machine. No account needed. Free for individuals, including freelancers. Download for macOS, Windows and Linux.
I built this for myself. I found traditional time tracking tools just added more admin to my workload. Crumbs is based on a hidden feature I went looking for many years ago, that was part of a legacy app. I cannot remember the app, but I recall they released an update and removed the feature. It was lost forever. Eventually I decided to build my own app that leverages a very simple feature: a prompt in intervals to check up what you are busy with. The point is to reduce as much friction as possible when it comes to leaving a quick note. A clue. A crumb that forms a trail.
I use Crumbs. And so do a few of my developer friends. I believe there is plenty room to make this a super simple and beautifully intuitive little app to finally free us from Time Sheets and time tracking!
Feedback and criticism is welcome.
