CoverED

Fair EM schedules in minutes — built by an EM doctor

Emergency departments still build schedules in spreadsheets. CoverED generates a fair month in minutes — nights/weekends balanced, requests honored, ACGME rules enforced — and gives every doc a mobile portal for trades, open shifts, and calendar sync.

Hey PH 👋 I'm Jake, an ER doctor. Every ED I've worked in ran its schedule the same way: one exhausted person, a spreadsheet, and a monthly fight about who got stuck with the bad nights. Scheduling an ER is genuinely hard — 24/7 coverage, night/weekend fairness, duty-hour rules for residents, a dozen personal requests — and generic scheduling tools don't model any of it. So I built CoverED. Admins enter their shifts and rules once; the generator produces a fair, conflict-free month in minutes; docs get a mobile portal for availability, trades, and open shifts. There's a full residency mode (ACGME rules, PGY-based shifts, block scheduling). The live demo needs no signup — you can generate a schedule yourself in ~30 seconds. I'd love feedback, especially from anyone who's ever built a staff schedule by hand. AMA about the ER, the build (React SPA, one 38k-line file, don't judge me), or scheduling math. 🚑
