Who hunted CounterScore?
CounterScore was hunted by Stas Leboff. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community. Hi Product Hunt! 👋
I'm building CounterScore because I've always found it interesting that figure skating fans can have very different opinions about the same performance — but there is usually no way to turn those individual opinions into a structured collective assessment.
The idea goes back to a 2019 Golden Skate discussion. Years later, after previously developing Figure Skater Content (a Windows app for ISU data), I’m turning this concept into a mobile app for iOS and Android.
The core formula:
Official Score → CounterScore → CounterGap
The challenge isn’t just calculating scores, but creating one shared CounterScore per performance, incorporating ISU rules, and applying dedicated algorithms to reduce bad-faith manipulation without taking away fan passion.
CounterScore is currently under active development. I'd much rather discover weaknesses now than after launch, so I’m especially looking for feedback:
• What could go wrong with this concept?
• How could people try to manipulate it?
• What would make you trust — or distrust — a community CounterScore?
