When I started building Convertly, I thought I was building a better referral program.
I was wrong.
Talking to Shopify brands, one pattern kept showing up: their best customers were already recommending them — on Instagram stories, in group chats, in DMs. But the brand had no idea, no attribution, and no way to reward them beyond a generic discount code.
So Convertly evolved into something else: customer advocacy infrastructure. Every customer or creator gets their own Shopify-synced storefront, tracked attribution, and automated payouts. Same primitives as the creator economy — applied to people who already love your brand.
The biggest lesson from this build: customers don't want discounts. They want identity. Give them a storefront with their name on it and the behavior changes completely.
