CommentIQ
Understand what your YouTube audience really think

Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I'm Mohan, the sole developer & architect behind CommentIQ and the broader tapdot (https://tapdot.org) suite of privacy-first browser extensions & tools.
CommentIQ started from a personal frustration: I'd publish a YouTube video, get hundreds of comments, and have no efficient way to understand the overall reaction — I was reading every comment individually. Existing tools either required an API key (YouTube's comment API has severe quota limits) or sent your data to a remote AI endpoint.
So I built my own solution, using Chrome's on-device Gemini Nano via the Prompt API. The interesting constraint: YouTube removed public comment API access years ago, so we read comments directly from the page DOM — which turned out to be a surprisingly deep rabbit hole (YouTube is a SPA, comments lazy-load via IntersectionObserver, the DOM structure changes between A/B test variants...).
The hardest part - was making the Gemini Nano integration robust. The model has a context window, popular videos overflow it, and the output isn't guaranteed to be valid JSON even when you prompt for it. I wrote a detailed technical post on dev.to if you want the full breakdown: https://dev.to/mohanvenkatakrish...
CommentIQ just got approved on the Chrome Web Store after our first submission. The core feature set is free — install it, open any YouTube video, and tell me if the topic clustering is actually surfacing the right things. That's the part I'm least confident about and most want feedback on.
Happy to answer anything about building with the Prompt API, Manifest V3 content script patterns, or scraping SPAs without a backend.

Who hunted CommentIQ?
CommentIQ was hunted by Mohan . A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
