Coffee Recite

Pomodoro break timer with vocabulary flashcards built in

Most break reminders waste the break; most flashcard apps need their own slot in your day. Coffee Recite merges them: your existing break becomes the study session. A menu bar break timer for macOS with vocabulary flashcards, streaks, and pronunciation. Learn Chinese (HSK), Japanese (JLPT), French, Spanish, German & English — 29 CEFR-graded decks, 23,500+ words, fully offline.

Hey Product Hunt! 👋 I'm Malvin — a backend engineer who somehow ended up shipping a Flutter desktop app. Coffee Recite came out of three things colliding: I've been learning Japanese, I was already using a break-reminder tool (Stretchly) to force myself away from the keyboard during work, and I'm a serious pour-over coffee drinker who hand-brews twice a day. At some point I realized I was already taking the break — I just wasn't doing anything with it. So Coffee Recite hijacks the break you were going to take anyway: when your Pomodoro timer ends, instead of a plain "take a break" notification, you get a vocabulary flashcard — word, pronunciation, definition, example sentence. Flip to test yourself first, tap to hear it spoken. 29 decks across 6 languages (Chinese HSK, Japanese JLPT, French/Spanish/German/English CEFR), fully offline, no accounts, no tracking. The part I had the most fun with: instead of implementing full SM-2 spaced repetition, I used a simple weighted random draw that favors words you haven't seen in the last 7 days. Much less state to manage, and it still nudges you toward what you're actually forgetting. It's macOS-only for now — Windows is on the roadmap, but I wanted to ship rather than keep polishing both platforms in private. Would love your feedback, especially on which language/level deck I should add next!
