Hi Product Hunt. I built Coast because every app I use has ten shortcuts I cannot remember and three things that have no shortcut at all. The usual fix is a piece of hardware that sits on your desk doing nothing most of the day, or a subscription for what is fundamentally a grid of buttons. My phone was already sitting next to my keyboard, so I put the control surface there. Coast is an iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch app plus a free menu bar app for the Mac. They talk over your local Wi-Fi and the Mac executes real input events, so it works with everything you already have. No plugins, no extensions, no per app setup. The standout part is the editor. You pick a grid up to 8 by 12 and place whatever you want: buttons and modifier chords, hold and sticky keys, two stroke chords like Cmd K Cmd S, jog wheels with per detent actions, joysticks, D-pads, turbo keys, a volume slider wired to CoreAudio, scroll strips, text macros, and app launchers that pull your Mac's real installed apps and icons over the wire. Tap to configure, drag to move, corner handle to resize. Layouts sync through iCloud. The app is free and includes the trackpad, the keyboard, the built in decks and one custom grid. Coast Pro is $2.99 once, not a subscription, and unlocks unlimited grids, macros, the screen mirror, the Apple Watch app and iCloud sync. The Mac app is free. There is no account, no server and no analytics of any kind. I am a solo developer. The most useful feedback for me is which controls are missing, and how the controls feel.

Who hunted Coast?

Coast was hunted by Mason Chen. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
